Registration Open for Islanders to Participate in F-1 Style Racing Event

Port Blair, Oct. 13: A first of its kind Motor Sports event is being held in Port Blair by the Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with Andaman Safaris on 4th and 5th November 2017. The two day event will allow islanders to participate in an F-1 style racing event. There are three categories of cars and races: Hatchbacks/ Sedans and SUVs. Any member of the general public who has access to such a type of car, has a valid license and is above 21 years of age can register to participate in the race by calling up 9932088888 or 9531988888. Registration closes on the 30th of October and Registration fees is Rs. 2,500. The event organizers are also currently working on allowing teams of 3-4 people to participate as well with registration fees of 5,000-6,000 rupees per team. The event will be held on 4th and 5th November at Beodnabad, in the maidan opposite Park Hotel. Approximately 3 acres of land will be used to stage the event.

Shashank Pooria, the General Secretary of YCCI said, "The idea started with seeing youth driving rashly on the streets. Instead by participating in this event people can channelize their enthusiasm for speed and racing in a controlled atmosphere. This event is being held in conjunction with Andaman Adventure Safaris. It is the only company in the islands registered with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), which is the governing body for all Autocross and motor sports events in the country. We have already sought the necessary approvals from FMSCI and on 1st November officials from FMSCI will come down to Port Blair to prepare the racing track according to their guidelines." 

All racers who register for the event will be given a license by FMSCI, valid for the duration of the two day event. As per FMSCI rules, two ambulances and a team of doctors including a surgeon will be on standby for the duration of the event. Rupal Patel, a star from the hit Star Plus show ‘Saath Nibhana Saathiya’ will be the chief guest for the event. Representatives of YCCI said that not only are members of the general public invited to watch the event but they are encouraged to do so.
